Challenge

To inform future product development efforts, gather feedback from parent-child pairs regarding their preferences for colors/materials/finishes (CMF) for kids’ electronic devices and accessories. The child participants should be between 5 and 10 years old. Also understand how parents are making decisions about kids’ devices, device accessories, and room décor, and how involved children are in the decision-making process.

Solution

User test with prototype materials, with at least 24 participant pairs (parent child), 1 hour sessions, in person Interviews in a lab.

Deliverables:

- Participant screener

- Participant sheet

- Session guide

- Final report

Results

  1. Reversed the clients thinking on at least 2 of their preferred finishes subsequently changing the course of the production .

  2. Created new categories of living situations that were not previously considered. For example considering shared sleeping spaces for large families or families in high rent areas.

  3. Helped create a new definition around how parents and children work together to make choices.
